Golden Bee Properties is a family owned and operated business with in-house abilities to acquire properties, construct and maintain properties and manage all of the necessary backend asset management functions.
The true origins of the Golden Bee family of companies goes back to 1979, when Isaac Berneman established his first real estate brokerage in Los Angeles. An attorney by trade, he spent the subsequent decades specializing in corporate and tax law, as well as developing extensive and invaluable knowledge of the Los Angeles real estate market.
Having retired from the law, in 2011 Isaac worked with his sons to combine their skills and found Golden Bee Properties, with an initial focus on buying, rehabilitating and selling distressed properties. With the company firmly established as a successful boutique real estate investment and development company, Isaac’s role has evolved to focus on reviewing acquisitions and guiding the organization through any legal questions that arise.
Isaac also serves in a leadership role that helps Golden Bee define and maintain the moral center of the company - the underlying reason that we exist. Through high standards of integrity, honesty and ethics, our central role in the marketplace is to help our customers manage one of the most important investments in their lives. Whether our client is an owner, a renter or an investor, we provide the expertise that helps them minimize risk and get the most from a property. On each and every transaction, we are helping fill and essential need for our clients. Isaac helps keep this purpose and our company values front and center, which is integral to our success with our client relations.
Chief Executive Officer
David is an experienced entrepreneur with an extensive career in real estate development, investing and asset management.
He founded Golden Bee Properties, a boutique real estate organization that focuses on infill development projects and long-term cashflow investments. The company later expanded to include a property management arm called Golden Bee Management, which now enjoys a portfolio of over 650 units throughout the Los Angeles and Las Vegas areas. He also formed Golden Bee Realty, a commercial real estate agency that helps assist with the organization’s sales and acquisitions. Over the years, he’s built the Golden Bee family of companies into a vertically-integrated operation with over $150 million in assets under management (AUM).
David also has an extensive background as a real estate consultant. In this capacity, his client list has included such organizations as the global commercial real estate giant Westfield, Thomas Properties Group and NBC Universal. In this role David assisted his clients with pro forma analyses, entitlement processing, retail mix evaluations, fiscal impact studies and various other economic projection studies.
David has a Masters in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a dual Bachelors degree in Psychology and Environmental Science, Policy and Management from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a registered LEED Accredited Professional, a licensed California real estate broker, and a board member of the Los Angeles Sustainability Collaborative. He also teaches real estate market analysis at UCLA as a part-time lecturer.

Chief Development Officer
Jonathan began his career as a financial advisor and equities trader before transitioning to the real estate industry in 2010. Since then, Jonathan and his companies have bought, sold, rehabilitated or build over 3,000 single family homes nationwide. These projects span everything from minor rehabs to room additions to ground-up construction projects.
He currently serves as president of his own company, which has exclusive contracts with Blackstone and other private equity funds. In this capacity, he oversees the rehab of over a thousand homes each year across the country. In 2014 he expanded into land purchase, entitling them for multi-family development. He is currently working on four dynamic small lot apartment projects in the L.A. area, each at different stages of completion.
Since 2018, he’s served as Chief Development Officer at Golden Bee, helping run Golden Z Holdings, the investment arm of the firm. In this role, he and his partners have overseen the purchase of sixteen multi-family buildings worth a combined $50 million. He oversees all aspects of construction, from initial budget to finishing touches.
The Los Angeles based team consists of our main office staff dedicated solely to day-to-day asset management and finances, as well as our construction team who handles maintenance requests. With approximately $50 million of real estate already under management, Golden Bee Properties continues to seek opportunities for growth.
Director of Leasing
Leasing OverlordErik handles leasing for Golden Bee. He has extensive knowledge of the renting process, including Section 8 rentals. In his years in the industry, Erik has learned that no two transactions are alike. Whether you’re renting a property in West Hollywood or working with a local Housing Authority to assist someone who has fallen on hard time, being resourceful is key. Addressing challenges upfront with common sense solutions helps make the process easier on everyone, and is part of the reason that our renters love us.Erik believes in maintaining a strong sense of humor. As famed humorist Erma Bombeck said, “When humor goes, there goes civilization.” When Erik needs to rejuvenate his sense of humor, he enjoys biking, hiking, and on more adventurous days, snowboarding.
Director of Maintenance
Maintance OverseerJoseph is a maintenance and legal support specialist at Golden Bee. He handles the scheduling, coordination and oversight of property work orders, ensuring that our owners, tenants and vendors are able to resolve any property issues with as little hassle as possible. He’s also a seasoned legal advisor, and in the rare circumstance where a tenancy issue needs to be resolved in court, he represents Golden Bee and our property owners.Joseph has fulfilled many roles in his years in the industry, and is an expert on property acquisition, property evaluation, quality control assurance, construction consultation, legal issues and managing maintenance departments. He considers the ability to rapidly “change hats” to be an invaluable asset in the industry. When he isn’t working to ensure that our properties are in tip-top shape, Joseph can be found gently guiding his grandkids towards being upstanding Giants fans.
Sir David's Squire
Jamie started off as the intern in 2016 and has been with the company ever since. In that short time, the team has grown and the office moved to a larger space accommodate the growing company. She is constantly pushing her coworkers to learn the newest AppFolio features and keep the company on the cutting edge.
She is an LA native who grew up watching her dad manage commercial properties in the Valley. In her time off, she enjoys spending time with family, going to Disneyland, seeing shows at the Music Center downtown, planning her future travels, and squeezing all the value she can out of her AMC Stubs A-List membership.
Around the office, you can find Jamie managing Accounts Receivable, but you can also find her problem solving the latest tenant emergency, filling in for the IT Department, on-boarding new clients, and anything else that needs to be done.
Associate, Leasing & Maintenance
Man about the OfficeAngel is a true expert in the industry. He has over eight years’ property management experience, nine years’ leasing experience, as well as a background in construction and remodeling. He has also held an official real estate license through the California Department of Real Estate for over twelve years. Through those endeavors, he’s gained extensive knowledge of issues pertaining to single-family, multi-family and commercial real estate.When he isn’t working, Angel keeps busy with his wife, two kids and two dogs.
Senior Associate, Operations
Countess of CountingAs the company’s bookkeeper, Marilyn handles accounts payable and receivable, reviews and manages all invoices, and works with our property owners on their monthly reports and distributions. She also works with our tenants on any issues with rent. As such, she’s sometimes referred to as our “Countess of Counting.”At Golden Bee, we pride ourselves on our accuracy and reliability - paying accounts as agreed in a timely fashion. But if asked, Marilyn will tell you this isn’t just about numbers – her ability to do her job well starts by developing positive and comforting professional relationships with others. In her spare time, you might just spot Marilyn braving the wilds of Disneyland with her two year-old daughter.
Director of Construction & Design
Queen of BoxesA native New Yorker, Jenn acts as a Construction & Design Senior Associate. When a property needs a renovation or interior decoration, Jenn is the creative problem-solver than ensures that our clients get the best value for their upgrade dollars.Jenn discovered her passion for the work after purchasing and fully renovating her own fixer-upper. She immersed herself in learning as much as she could, and approached each challenge through research, tenacity, and a sense of artistry. She was hooked, and decided that she wanted to employ her unique talents for others. She’s always focused on the next great Golden Bee design.Jenn’s work has led her to be known around Golden Bee as the “Queen of Boxes.” If you find an avalanche of deliveries somewhere in the office, Jenn is sure to be close by.
Paladin of ProgressWith a bachelors degree in finance from San Jose State University Harrison is looking to grow into the real estate industry. Harrisons role is to take care of the accounts receivable and accounts payable for the Golden Bee Investment Properties. He is currently working on getting his real estate salesperson license and is ready to help people find and get into their new homes. Harrison is an Orange County native and enjoys being located near many major landmarks. On the weekend you can mainly find Harrison playing golf with friends
Notice KnightCesar works as an administrative assistant and property manager at GoldenBee, while simultaneously studying financial management at West Los Angeles College. He can zip around L.A. faster than anyone we know, which comes in useful when a renter or owner needs someone on-site. Cesar is fluent in both English and Spanish, which is also tremendously helpful in the industry.He’s the youngest member of his family, and proud to be the first who is college-bound. When he’s not working or studying – which isn’t that often given his packed schedule – he loves trying new spicy foods, which he attributes to having grown up in Koreatown.
Maintenance MinionAlex is the newest addition to the Golden Bee Family. He is the maintenance department’s traffic controller. He is a pro at customer care, and helps our tenants get the support they need. Alex grew up in Home Depot at his dad’s side, giving him knowledge in the maintenance flied. He is fluent in both English and Spanish. Alex is currently studying creative writing and business administration at UC Riverside. Off the clock Alex enjoys binge watching Netflix, and jamming out to music.

Office Spirt Animal
Golden Bee wouldn’t be the same without the guidance of Benny. He is dedicated to providing exuberant greetings at the door to every visitor. Benny keeps the office staff healthy with exercises chasing tacos, margaritas, donuts and lattes (dog toys). He is always available for moral support with a happy tail wag. When he is not providing blood pressure lowering pets, Benny can be found taking naps and dreaming of chasing squirrels.
